Palm Sunday: A King, A Process, and a Moment That Matters

Palm Sunday is often celebrated as a moment of victory—Jesus entering Jerusalem to the praise of the crowds. But beneath the surface, it is far more than a symbolic parade. It is a prophetic announcement of kingship and a powerful reminder that God’s kingdom unfolds through process, not instant takeover .

The people expected a political revolution. Jesus revealed a spiritual one.

A King Who Comes Through Process

Before this moment, Jesus shares a parable about a nobleman who leaves to receive a kingdom and entrusts responsibilities to his servants (see Gospel of Luke 19). This context matters.

The message is clear:

Authority is preceded by stewardship.
Promotion is preceded by testing.

Palm Sunday is not the culmination—it is the beginning of a decisive process that leads to the cross, the resurrection, and ultimately, the full revelation of Christ’s kingdom.

The Pressing Produces the Oil

In Scripture, oil represents anointing, purpose, and character. But oil doesn’t come without pressure.

There is no oil without pressing.

We often want the outcome without the process, the calling without the crushing—but spiritual maturity cannot be microwaved. It is formed.

Pressure does two things:

It produces character
It reveals what’s inside us

If we avoid the pressing, we forfeit the depth God is trying to develop in us.

Surrender Determines the Outcome

Process requires surrender.

What you refuse to surrender in the process, you will forfeit in the outcome.

God is not just trying to get something to you—He is trying to form something in you. Every test is an invitation to trust Him more deeply.

Obedience Unlocks the Impossible

When Jesus instructed His disciples to go and retrieve a colt, it likely didn’t make logical sense. Yet they obeyed—and everything unfolded exactly as He said.

Obedience to God’s Word carries you where strategy cannot.

You don’t need full understanding to move forward—you need trust.

Don’t renegotiate what God has already spoken
Don’t delay what God has already revealed

His Word is enough.

What’s in Your Hand Is Enough

God often begins with what we already have.

A colt. A few disciples. A simple act of obedience.

When surrendered, the ordinary becomes powerful.

Stop waiting for more. Start surrendering what’s already in your hands.

Stewardship Leads to Increase

The parable reminds us: what we’ve been given is not meant to be buried—it’s meant to be multiplied.

Your gifts
Your time
Your influence
Your opportunities

Faithfulness with little leads to authority over much.

But withholding leads to stagnation—and even loss.

Don’t Miss Your Moment

As Jesus enters Jerusalem, the crowds celebrate—but the city itself does not fully recognize Him. And He weeps.

This moment is deeply sobering.

You can be close to what God is doing and still miss it.

Some breakthroughs are tied to recognizing your moment of visitation.

Discern the season
Respond with urgency
Don’t delay obedience

Missed moments can mean missed opportunities.

Pressure Reveals and Refines

Every trial reveals something:

Deficits that need healing
Growth that has already taken place

Pressure is not your enemy—it’s your mirror.

And in God’s hands, it becomes your tool for transformation.

When You Don’t Know What to Do

If you find yourself in uncertainty, here’s the anchor:

Go back to the last thing God said.

Return to Scripture
Recall His promises
Stay faithful to what has already been revealed

Breakthrough doesn’t come from constant reinvention—it comes from consistent obedience.

Final Thought

Palm Sunday reminds us that Jesus is King—but not the kind of King the world expected.

He doesn’t bypass process.
He doesn’t avoid pressure.
He doesn’t rush the outcome.

Instead, He invites us into a journey of:

Surrender
Stewardship
Obedience
Awareness of the moment

And through it all, He forms something far greater than temporary victory—He forms eternal transformation.

If you’re in a season of pressure, uncertainty, or waiting, don’t lose heart.

You’re not being overlooked. You’re being prepared.

A Kingdom Family: Living Out the Culture of God’s House

At Connection Church, our vision for church life is not built around personalities, programs, or trends. Instead, it is shaped by biblical principles that reflect God’s heart for His people. The church is meant to be a living expression of His presence, His goodness, and His love working through a family of believers.

These core principles help define who we are and how we live together as a community of faith.

Our Core Foundations

Before exploring the mission of the church, it’s important to remember the foundational values that shape everything we do.

1. Presence-Centered

Everything we pursue is oriented around hosting the presence of God. The church is not simply a gathering place—it is a dwelling place for God’s presence among His people. Our worship, decisions, and ministries flow from a desire to encounter Him and make space for Him to move.

2. The Goodness of God

We believe that God is immutably good . His character does not fluctuate with circumstances, emotions, or outcomes. Because He is good, we can trust Him fully. Faith grows strongest when it is rooted in the unchanging nature of who God is.

3. Scripture-Rooted

Our beliefs and practices are grounded in God’s Word . While emotions and experiences are part of the Christian journey, they are never the ultimate authority. Scripture provides the steady foundation that shapes our theology, our culture, and our decisions.

4. Identity in Christ

We relate to God and to one another from a place of grace , not personal achievement. Our identity is not based on performance, reputation, or success. It is rooted in what Christ has already accomplished for us.

Principle #5: A People-Focused Mission

Jesus gave the church a clear assignment: the Great Commission. At its heart, this mission is about directing the love of God toward people .

Every believer carries the message of the gospel not merely as a duty but as a son or daughter of God with a testimony . Our lives themselves become evidence of God’s transforming power. The mission of the church is not reserved for a few leaders—it belongs to every member of the family.

The Church as a Kingdom Family

Scripture repeatedly describes the church as a household built by God.

This means the church is not simply a crowd gathered around a platform. It is a spiritual family where believers see one another as brothers and sisters . When we embrace this reality, relationships move from being transactional to being covenantal.

In a family, people belong. They are not valued only for what they contribute but for who they are.

From Orphan Mindset to Adoption

The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:14–15 that believers have not received a spirit of slavery that leads to fear. Instead, we have received the Spirit of adoption .

This truth confronts what many call an orphan mindset —a way of thinking that assumes rejection, competition, and distance in relationships.

Adoption into God’s family means:

Our identity is secure in Christ.
Our belonging is not determined by human acceptance.
We approach God as a loving Father, not a distant master.

When this truth takes root, it changes how we relate to one another within the church.

Unity Through Diversity

Biblical unity does not mean uniformity.

People come from different backgrounds, cultures, personalities, and life experiences. Scripture teaches that these differences are not obstacles to overcome but opportunities for deeper unity. As Colossians 3:11 reminds us, our deepest connection is not culture or social status—it is our shared redemption in Christ.

The church becomes most beautiful when diverse people are held together by a common Savior.

Covenant Community Requires Commitment

Real community does not happen automatically. It requires intentional commitment.

Ephesians 4:2–3 describes the attitudes that protect unity:

Humility
Gentleness
Patience
Bearing with one another in love

The Bible assumes that relationships within the church will include imperfection. Instead of ignoring that reality, Scripture calls believers to build forgiveness and grace into the foundation of their relationships.

Forgiveness as a Way of Life

Forgiveness is not optional in the kingdom of God.

To forgive is to refuse to let wounds define our identity or control our relationships. It can be understood as canceling a debt that you cannot collect .

In many ways, forgiveness is strength restrained by love . It reflects the very character of God, who has forgiven us through Christ.

When a church practices forgiveness regularly, it becomes a place where healing and restoration are possible.

Every Member Matters

The Apostle Paul compares the church to a human body in 1 Corinthians 12. Just as every part of the body is necessary, every believer plays an indispensable role in the life of the church.

No one can say to another, “I have no need of you.”

Some roles are visible, while others remain unseen. Yet hidden acts of service—like prayer, encouragement, and quiet faithfulness—are just as vital as public ministry.

In God’s design, every person contributes to the health of the whole.

Gifts Are Meant to Serve

Spiritual gifts are not given to elevate individuals. They are given to serve others .

First Peter 4:10 describes gifts as a stewardship of God’s varied grace . Each believer receives grace from God that is meant to flow outward toward the community.

When used faithfully, spiritual gifts reveal the character of God. When used for ego or neglected altogether, they fail to fulfill their purpose.

Healthy churches cultivate gifts not for recognition but for service.

The True Mark of Discipleship

Jesus gave His disciples a clear indicator of genuine faith.

In John 13:34–35, He said:

“Love one another as I have loved you. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples.”

According to Jesus, the clearest evidence of discipleship is not impressive platforms, spiritual gifts, or theological expertise.

It is love .

Love becomes the church’s most powerful testimony to the world. More than programs, strategies, or size, it is the culture of Christ-like love that reveals the reality of God’s kingdom.

Living as God’s Family

Connection Church seeks to cultivate a culture where:

God’s presence is central
Scripture guides our lives
Identity flows from grace
Mission is directed toward people
Community reflects covenant commitment
Every believer is valued and equipped
Love becomes the defining mark of our discipleship

When these principles shape our lives, the church becomes more than a gathering—it becomes a living expression of God’s family on earth .

And through that family, the world begins to see what the kingdom of God truly looks like.

Identity That Unlocks Destiny

Who You Are in Him: A Study in Identity, Grace, and Seated Victory

There's a question that quietly shapes everything about how we live, love, and follow Jesus — Who do you think you are?

Not in the sarcastic sense. In the most important sense.

In a recent message at The Connection Church, we dove deep into what Scripture says about the identity of every believer — and the answer is far more staggering than most of us have allowed ourselves to believe.

Defined by the Redeemer, Not Your Record

Ephesians 1:7 says, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace." Your worth isn't determined by your worst day or your best performance. It's established by the price that was paid. God gave Christ — and that reveals everything about how He values you.

This wasn't a Plan B. Redemption was God's wise, intentional plan from before creation — not a reaction to the fall. His grace isn't rationed out reluctantly. It's lavished — a word that carries desire and delight, not obligation.

Sealed, Not Striving

Ephesians 1:13–14 introduces us to the Holy Spirit as the seal of our salvation — and that image carries serious weight. A seal in the ancient world communicated four things: ownership (you belong to God), authenticity (this is a genuine work), security (it can't be tampered with), and authority (you carry the weight of the One whose seal you bear).

Your salvation isn't held together by your performance or your knowledge. It's held together by God. That's not a license for passivity — it's an anchor for peace.

Revelation, Not Accumulation

Paul's prayer in Ephesians 1:18 asks that the eyes of your heart would be enlightened — not just your mind. Transformation doesn't come from collecting more information. It comes from revelation. As 2 Peter 1:3 reminds us, God has already provided "everything that pertains to life and godliness." The issue isn't availability. It's awareness. You can't activate what you don't know you have.

You Are the Righteousness of God

2 Corinthians 5:21 — "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." This isn't positional poetry to be admired from a distance. This is your actual identity. And here's the practical reality: sin loses its grip when identity is rightly believed. You don't sin less by trying harder. You sin less by knowing more deeply who you are.

Seated, Not Striving

Ephesians 1:20–23 tells us Christ is seated far above all rule, power, dominion, and authority — and all things are under His feet. Here's the connection: the church is His body. His position is our position. We don't fight toward victory. We live from it.

The same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in believers today (Ephesians 1:19). That's not name-it-and-claim-it theology. That's faith that hears what God speaks and agrees with it — which is exactly why praying "in Jesus' name" isn't a formula. It's a declaration of alignment with the One in whom we abide (John 15:7).

Love First, Obedience Follows

Jesus said it plainly: "If you love me, you'll keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Obedience is the fruit of love, not the root of it. Works disconnected from Christ's lordship are, as James 2 suggests, lifeless. But authentic faith produces works — naturally, joyfully, from the overflow of knowing who He is and who we are in Him.

An Inheritance Already Obtained

Ephesians 1:11 says believers have obtained an inheritance. Not "will obtain." Obtained. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee — the down payment — until full possession is realized. This settled reality becomes a stabilizing force against fear, shifting doctrines, and the exhausting hunt for external validation.

The Core of It All

This is the heartbeat of what we believe as a church: Christ is victor. Therefore, we live from victory — not striving toward it.

We yield. We speak. We act when God directs. We're not passive waiters, but we're not white-knuckling our way to holiness either. Faith comes by hearing — by aligning with what God has already spoken over us in Christ.

So let the question land again, this time with the answer Scripture gives:

Who are you?

You are redeemed. You are sealed. You are seated. You are the righteousness of God in Christ.

Now live like it.

God's Word Transforms

When Feelings Aren’t Facts: Why God’s Goodness, God’s Word, and God’s Spirit Belong Together

A lot of spiritual confusion starts in the same place: we build our lives on the wrong foundation. We let feelings, opinions, preferences, or even powerful experiences define what’s true—then wonder why we feel unstable, stuck, or unsure of who we are.

In this message, the pastor lays out a clear progression: you don’t really know who you are until you know who God is , because “we’re created in his likeness and his image.” From there, he walks through a core belief that shapes the culture and mission of the church: our precepts are rooted in Scripture —not in performance, not in hype, and not in whatever feels right in the moment.

Here are the key insights, along with a few memorable illustrations from the talk.

1) Identity Starts With a Rooted View of God’s Goodness

Early on, the pastor makes the point bluntly: if we don’t get rooted in our hearts that God is good—and that his goodness is for us—we’ll live confused.

Why? Because without that anchor, we default to performance. We start “trying to operate out of performance to get his approval,” forgetting the core of the gospel: “He loved us when we didn’t know how to love ourselves… while we were yet sinners, Christ died.”

This isn’t framed as “warm, fuzzy Christianity.” It’s presented as essential doctrine that affects everything: how we relate to people, how we dream, what we contend for, and what we believe is possible. The pastor references the idea that God is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above” what we ask or imagine—and highlights that it works “according to the power of God that works within… us.”

The practical takeaway: your view of God shapes your expectations, your confidence, and your behavior. If you believe God is good, you’ll stop negotiating for approval and start living from belovedness.

2) Repentance Isn’t Just Feeling Bad—It’s Changing How You Think

One of the most helpful clarifications in the message is about repentance. The pastor emphasizes that repentance is not merely emotional regret. It’s transformation—“to change the way you think.”

He ties it to the renewing of the mind: “God doesn’t want you to check your mind at the door… I just don’t want you to leave it the way that it is.”

In other words, spiritual growth includes your intellect, your thinking patterns, and your assumptions. God’s goodness, he says, is what transforms the way we think—and as thinking changes, behavior changes too.

Key takeaway: repentance is a mindset shift that leads to a lifestyle shift. It’s not ignoring reality; it’s learning to interpret reality through God’s truth.

3) Scripture Is the Final Authority (Not Feelings, Preferences, or Opinions)

The third core belief is stated plainly: “We are a church whose precepts are rooted in Scripture.” And the pastor doesn’t soften what that means:

“If the Bible says you must do it… you must do it.”
“If the Bible says don’t do it… you don’t do it.”
If Scripture gives direction without full clarity, it may be permissible—as long as it’s not against the Word—and you “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.”

The big idea is that God’s Word is revealed truth , and without it, we drift. Feelings and opinions can lead us “in all sorts of ways” to conclusions that may not even be for us—but “God’s word is for you.”

He also drops a line that’s both convicting and freeing: “My feelings are not my facts.” He admits he doesn’t always feel secure or righteous—but what God says is still true. “Truth is truth whether you see it or feel it or not.”

If you’ve ever felt spiritually whiplashed—confident one day, crushed the next—this is why. A life led by feelings will always be fragile. A life led by truth becomes steady.

4) Word-Heavy Without Spirit Gets Dry. Spirit-Heavy Without Word Gets Weird.

One of the strongest sections of the message is the pastor’s critique of extremes.

He describes one camp that’s “very word-heavy” but has “aborted any dependency upon the Spirit,” resulting in people who “know a lot about God, but… don’t know how to encounter God.”

Then he describes the opposite: circles that are big on “the move of the Spirit,” where “all this stuff” happens—but when asked what God is doing and how they know, there’s confusion because it’s “not rooted in Scripture.” The result: encounters without sound doctrine that can send people “way off in left field.”

His solution isn’t a “balance” (as if Word and Spirit compete). He calls it a marriage : “The move of the Spirit will never contradict the word of Scripture.”

That line is a safety rail. If you want to know whether what you’re experiencing is trustworthy, he argues, Scripture sets the “parameters,” “guidance,” and “signpost.”

5) The Word Is Meant to Shape How You Live, Not Just What You Know

This is where the message gets intensely practical. The pastor quotes James 1:22: “Be doers of the word… not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

He explains it with the mirror metaphor: the Word shows you who you are, but if you walk away and don’t do it, it’s like forgetting what you look like—“in other words, you don’t know who you are.”

He takes it further: “Knowledge without obedience will always lead to a hardened heart.” That’s how people become religious, routine-driven, and resistant to God—like the Pharisees who could speak well but had hearts “far from me.”

He frames lordship with another sharp line: “Lordship is not just a confession. It’s actually submission.”

6) A Seed, a Jalapeño Plant, and the Power of the Word

One of the most memorable anecdotes is about his mother—who “was not a gardener,” and whose plants came to their house “to die… a sad, gruesome, lonely, crunchy death.”

But she could grow two things: jalapeño peppers and banana peppers. The point isn’t gardening advice—it’s spiritual formation.

A seed doesn’t need you to manufacture fruit. The fruit is already in the seed—if it’s planted in the right environment.

“That’s the Word of God,” he says. “You don’t need to add to the Word… you don’t need to subtract… the Word of God is perfectly powerful to produce the fruit of its kind.” Our role is to create the right environment: a surrendered heart and obedient life.

7) Scripture Shapes Culture—and Culture Shapes Everything

To close, the pastor argues that God’s Word isn’t just personal inspiration; it shapes a whole way of life. He references Deuteronomy 6:6–9: keep God’s words on your heart, talk about them at home and on the way, write them on doorposts.

That’s not about having a “snark reply to every coworker’s opinion.” It’s about God’s truth being present in “every crevice” of life , shaping attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and ultimately the culture of a home and community.

He challenges the tendency to let problems define culture—staring at bank accounts, arguments, disappointment—until we “can’t find God anymore.” But he insists heaven’s culture can invade earth, echoing Jesus’ prayer: “Thy kingdom come… on earth as it is in heaven.”

Final Takeaway

If you want clarity, stability, and growth:

Get rooted in the truth that God is good .
Treat Scripture as final authority , not a suggestion.
Let the Word and the Spirit work together: truth revealed + truth experienced .
Move from hearing to doing—because obedience is where maturity forms .

A message from Pastor Anthony Hall | Connection Church Core Values Series

At Connection Church, we believe that the foundation of everything we do—how we worship, how we serve, how we relate to one another—is built on a few core values.

Last week, we kicked off this series by talking about being a presence-centered church : a people who host the Father well in every area of life, just like Jesus did.

This week, we unpacked our second core value: The Goodness of God is for us.

It's a simple statement. But if we're honest, most of us struggle to believe it—especially when life gets hard, when prayers seem unanswered, or when our past whispers lies about our worth.

God Is Immutably Good

Pastor Anthony began with a powerful declaration: God is immutably good. That word immutably means God is incapable of being anything other than completely good. He can't have a bad day. He doesn't change His mind about you. His justice? Good. His discipline? Good. His silence? Still good.

As the pastor reminded us:

"We can misrepresent His goodness. We can distort His goodness. But do you know one thing you can't do with God's goodness? You can't exaggerate it."

That's a freeing truth. No matter how high your expectations of God's kindness, you will never overshoot His actual character.

From the very beginning, God introduced Himself through the lens of goodness. In Genesis 1 , every act of creation is followed by the same declaration: "And God saw that it was good." Light—good. Land and sea—good. Animals—good. And then humanity, made in His image— good .

You were created to be a manifestation of God's goodness. You are not a mistake. You are not too broken. You were made to reflect Him.

When Life Distorts the Lens

But here's the problem: life happens.

We've all encountered pain, betrayal, abuse, disappointment. We've been hurt by people we trusted. We've prayed prayers that seemed to go unanswered. And over time, those experiences begin to shape how we see God.

"We've encountered bad moments. We've been offended, hurt, abused, taken advantage of. And in time, we allow these things to change us and shape us until we begin to see the world not through the lens of God's goodness, but through all the hurt and tragedy."

Before long, we create entire relationships—with others and with God—around false narratives. We assume people have hidden motives. We keep our guard up. We stop being vulnerable. And we wonder why we feel distant from God and disconnected from others.

This is the enemy's oldest trick. His primary strategy has never changed: distort your view of God.

The Enemy's Core Strategy

Go back to the Garden of Eden. What did the serpent say to Eve?

"Did God really say…?"

He didn't lead with temptation. He led with accusation. He questioned God's character. He suggested that God was withholding something good from her—that God couldn't be trusted.

And it worked.

Pastor Anthony reminded us:

"The enemy's primary strategy isn't just to get you to sin. It's to distort your view of God. Because if he can do that, everything else falls apart."

This is still happening today. When we face a difficult diagnosis, a financial crisis, or a relational breakdown, the whisper comes: "If God were really good, this wouldn't be happening."

But that's a lie.

God's goodness doesn't mean life will be easy. It means He is with you in it, working all things for your good (Romans 8:28). It means His mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). It means even when you can't see the outcome, His heart toward you is peace and good will.

The Silence-Breaker

After 400 years of silence, God finally spoke again. And what were His first words?

"Peace on earth, good will toward men." (Luke 2:14)

Not condemnation. Not shame. Not a list of requirements.

Just peace. Just goodness.

The Israelites had failed. They had rebelled. They had walked in shame and distance from God for generations. And yet, when God broke the silence, He led with His heart: I am for you.

Pastor Anthony challenged us:

"God's will towards us is good. Not only is He good, but His goodness is aimed at you."

That's where the tension lives. Most of us believe God is good in theory. But do we believe He's good toward us? Do we believe His goodness applies to our mess, our failure, our specific situation?

Renewing the Mind

If we want to experience the fullness of God's goodness, we have to let Him renew our minds.

Romans 12:2 says:

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Notice the word prove. A renewed mind doesn't just believe God's will—it demonstrates it. It authenticates it to the world around us.

Pastor Anthony used the illustration of a Picasso painting. If someone claimed to discover a new Picasso, experts would examine every detail—the canvas, the brushstrokes, the materials—to verify its authenticity.

In the same way, a renewed mind works with the Spirit to reveal and confirm the goodness of God to others.

This is why Jesus said people will know we are His disciples by our love (John 13:35). Love is the proof. And love flows from a mind anchored in the truth of God's goodness.

Taste and See

You can't fully explain God's goodness. But you can experience it.

Psalm 34:8 invites us:

"Taste and see that the LORD is good."

God isn't asking you to figure Him out. He's inviting you to encounter Him. To stop talking about Him and start walking with Him. To let your heart take you where your head can't yet follow.

Pastor Anthony closed with Ephesians 3:20 :

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

God wants to do more than you can ask. More than you can imagine. But it happens according to the power at work within you.

In other words, the measure of God's goodness you experience is directly tied to your willingness to yield to His presence.

When you don't honor the power of God within you—when you don't surrender, trust, and abide—you limit what flows through you. Not because God changes, but because you're not positioned to receive.

A Challenge and an Invitation

So here's the question: Where have you stopped believing God is good for you?

Maybe it's your health. Your marriage. Your finances. Your kids. Your past.

Whatever it is, that's the place where your mind needs renewing. That's the place where the enemy has distorted your view of God. And that's the exact place where God wants to meet you with His goodness.

Don't run from the tension. Press into it. Ask Him to reveal the lie you've been believing. Let Him replace it with truth.

And then dare to dream again. Dare to ask again. Dare to believe that the God who calls you beloved is still in the business of doing immeasurably more.

Let's pray:

Father, we thank You that Your goodness is not based on our performance. It's rooted in Your character. The Power and Authority of the Kingdom

Identity Determines Authority

God’s people do not perish because God withholds power—but because they lack understanding.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” — Hosea 4:6
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Identity precedes authority. When believers do not know who they are in Christ, they live as spiritual orphans instead of sons and daughters. Many struggles attributed to God’s will are actually rooted in believers failing to walk out what the cross already secured.

Responsibility begins where revelation is ignored.

The Battle Is Spiritual—Aim Accordingly

Paul makes the battlefield unmistakably clear:

“We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against rulers, authorities, and spiritual forces of evil.” — Ephesians 6:12

When spiritual warfare is misdiagnosed, believers attack people instead of principalities—damaging relationships while leaving spiritual roots untouched. True Kingdom impact happens when the source is confronted, not merely the symptom.

Jesus never fought people.
He confronted darkness.

The Cross Was Total Victory

At Calvary, Jesus did not negotiate with darkness—He defeated it.

“He canceled the record of debt… disarming the rulers and authorities and making a public spectacle of them.” — Colossians 2:14–15

The cross addressed sin, shame, sickness, bondage, and authority. God is not partially victorious. The only remaining question is whether believers will see themselves as participants rather than observers.

Power and Authority: Both Are Required

Jesus distinguished the two, and Scripture affirms both are essential:

Authority: legal right
Power: operational ability

“Jesus taught as one who had authority.” — Matthew 7:29
“God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and with power.” — Acts 10:38

Authority without power produces religion.
Power without authority produces striving.
The Kingdom advances when both operate together.

Jesus, the Spirit, and Demonstrated Power

Though Jesus was fully the Son of God, His miracle ministry began after the Spirit descended at His baptism.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me.” — Luke 4:18

This was not coincidence—it was revelation. Authority flows from identity, but visible power flows through Spirit-empowered obedience.

Greater Than John the Baptist

Jesus made a shocking statement:

“Among those born of women none is greater than John… yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” — Luke 7:28

John carried prophetic authority but not indwelling Spirit empowerment. Kingdom believers carry the Spirit Himself.

This is not arrogance—it is inheritance.

The Same Spirit Lives in You

Believers do not receive a weaker Spirit than Jesus did.

“The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.” — Romans 8:11
“God gives the Spirit without measure.” — John 3:34

The Holy Spirit heals, restores, delivers, and transforms—and He is meant to work through every believer, not just a few.

Authority Comes from Identity and Commission

Jesus clarified how authority functions:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore, go…” — Matthew 28:18–19

Authority flows from identity, but it is exercised through commission. All believers share a general mandate, yet authority functions most effectively within the scope of what God has spoken.

Faith does not operate in imagination.
It operates in obedience.

Word and Power Together

Jesus modeled proclamation and demonstration, and He sent His disciples to do the same.

“He gave them power and authority over all demons and diseases.” — Luke 9:1–2

The Kingdom is not merely explained—it is displayed.

Revelation + Obedience = Power

The early church had authority by assignment, but they waited for power by obedience.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” — Acts 1:8

Submission to God’s Word is submission to God’s power. Where obedience flows, authority manifests.

The Call to Action: Walk It Out

This is the dividing line between belief and Kingdom living.

Stop waiting for what God has already provided
Stop blaming God for what He has authorized you to walk out
Stop aiming spiritual weapons at people instead of darkness

“Be doers of the Word, not hearers only.” — James 1:22

Your Next Step

Ask yourself—honestly:

Where have I been passive instead of obedient?
Where has God already spoken, but I have not acted?
Where am I called to exercise authority, not wait for permission?

The victory is finished.
The authority is delegated.
The power is available.

The Kingdom is not coming someday.
The Kingdom is now.

Why Believers Must Stop Waiting and Start Walking

“The Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” — 1 Corinthians 4:20

For many Christians, faith has quietly drifted into a posture of delay—waiting on God to act, to heal, to restore, to move. But the New Testament reveals a radically different Kingdom reality: Jesus has already won, and He has already delegated authority and power to His people.

The issue is not whether heaven has moved.
The issue is whether believers will.

Divine Realities, Not Deferred Promises

Scripture repeatedly presents Kingdom truths as present realities, not distant hopes.

“As He is, so are we in this world.” — 1 John 4:17
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.” — Colossians 1:13

Righteousness, victory, authority, and freedom are not future rewards. They are already accomplished through Christ. When believers wait for God to do what He has already done, faith is unintentionally replaced with passivity.

Faith does not beg.
Faith receives.

A Presence-Centered People

In Exodus 33 God offers Israel the land flowing wi th milk and honey — but not His presence. That offer reveals a truth we cannot afford to miss: the promise without the presence is empty. The way forward for any church, family, or individual is not only about reaching goals. It is about who goes with us while we go.

Why presence matters

Presence is the primary distinction of God’s people. It shapes identity, steadies obedience, and makes transformation possible. Without God’s manifested presence we can build programs, achieve goals, and still miss the mark because what we produce looks more like us than like Him.

Being presence-centered means everything we do is oriented around hosting God’s glory and walking with Him. It changes why we work, how we lead, and what we refuse to do when God is not moving.

Lessons from Exodus 33

The Israelites had just made a golden calf while Moses was on the mountain. God responds by saying He will send an angel to bring them into the promised land but that He will not go with them. The people mourn and remove their ornaments — a visible sign of repentance and reorientation.

Several key principles emerge from the scene:

Presence precedes promise. God moves in response to readiness and honor, not merely need.
Surrender clears the way. The removal of ornaments symbolizes giving up divided affections and idols that claim the heart God is due.
Space must be made. Moses pitched the tent of meeting outside the camp. He modeled creating sacred space where people could encounter God.
Remaining positions you for the promise. Joshua stayed near the tent and qualified to lead because he learned to live in God’s presence. Moses’ momentary departure from dependence cost him entry into the land.

Encounter transforms

When Moses met God, his face shone. That visible change is a type of the transformation God intends to do in every life that sits with Him. Under the law select priests carried God’s glory; in Christ the intent is corporate — the whole church becomes carriers of glory.

Transformation is not mainly about better behavior or clever strategy. It is about the work of God’s presence changing us from the inside out so our lives reflect His character and not our ambitions.

What a presence-centered culture looks like

A presence-centered church or household refuses to move unless He moves. We do not chase every good idea simply because it is appealing. We prioritize what God is doing above convenience, culture, and our own timelines.

We will not move unless he moves. We will not speak unless he speaks.

That posture produces leaders and communities who are steady in the storms, humble in success, and authentic in relationship. It makes our witness credible: people recognize us not by slogans but by a life marked by God’s presence.

Practical steps to become presence-centered

Remove the ornaments. Identify what competes for your affection (worry, work, status, comfort). Consciously surrender those things to God.
Create regular sacred space. Build rhythms for encountering God — a tent of meeting in your schedule where you are consistent and expectant.
Practice waiting to be sent. Before launching a project, ask God to show you His part. Be willing to delay good things until the right thing is clear.
Honor the means God uses. Respect the leadership, community, and forms God chooses to move through, even if the packaging is not your favorite.
Remain. Like Joshua, cultivate the habit of staying near God. Promises are often birthed in the consistency of presence, not in single moments of effort.

The ripple effect

A presence-centered people do more than secure personal breakthroughs. Your encounter becomes testimony. Your transformation impacts family, church, and community. When God’s presence changes you, your life points others to Him and opens doors for corporate revival and witness.

The church is to be a house that carries the glory — not because of programs or polished platforms but because we have been trained in the posture of surrender and the discipline of presence.

Final invitation

Ask yourself: would people see God in me if they looked closely? If not, what ornament do I need to remove? What schedule do I need to rearrange so God can move? Presence is a practice as much as a promise. Choose today to reorient around the One who goes with you.

Discovering the Purpose and Function of Spiritual Gifts

Unveiling the Meaning and Role of Spiritual Gifts.

Are the gifts of the Spirit still active today? The answer I stand with is yes. The gifts and offices described in Scripture are given by the Holy Spirit to build, equip, correct, and mature the church. Understanding how they differ and how they are meant to function prevents confusion, disunity, and misuse. Below I walk through the major objections to continuationism, explain the distinctions between fruit, ministry gifts, and manifestation gifts, and unpack how each gift operates in the life of the church.

Why this matters

Gifts of the Spirit are not merely emotional experiences or private curiosities. They are tools God uses so the church grows into maturity in Christ. When gifts are misunderstood or ignored, the body becomes imbalanced. When they are embraced with character and tested by Scripture, they bring unity, maturity, and supernatural help to ordinary people.

Two camps and where we land

There are two primary positions:

Cessationism - the belief that supernatural gifts ceased after the apostolic age or when the biblical canon was completed.
Continuationism - the belief that the gifts and their manifestations continue today as in the early church.

We hold to continuationism: the Holy Spirit still gives gifts, manifests, and equips believers today. There is room for honest questions and growth, but we must pursue unity, kindness, and humility while we learn.

Four common objections to continuationism and why they fail

People often point to four arguments against continuation. Each one needs to be tested by Scripture and sound hermeneutics.

1. The textual argument (1 Corinthians 13:8-10)

Some read "prophecies will cease" and "that which is perfect will come" as referring to the completed Bible. But hermeneutics requires that Scripture interpret Scripture. When we compare 1 Corinthians 13 with passages like Ephesians 4:11-16, a contradiction appears if we insist "perfect" equals the completed canon. Ephesians says apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers are given until the body reaches unity and maturity in Christ. We are not yet fully mature. Therefore the simpler reading is that the partial will pass away when fullness arrives at Christ's return, not at canonization. The textual argument does not hold up once the whole counsel of Scripture is considered.

2. The usage or validation argument

Some say gifts only validated apostolic ministries. But Paul clearly teaches the manifestation gifts are given for the common good and for the edification, exhortation, and comfort of the body (1 Corinthians 12 and 14). The gifts are not primarily about proving a leader's calling. They are corporate grace for building others up.

3. The observation argument

People claim, "We do not see gifts operate today, therefore they do not operate." Personal observation is not the foundation for objective truth. Outcomes are often shaped by what we ask God to do. The absence of frequent visible demonstrations in one context does not disprove biblical teaching about the Spirit's gifts.

4. The cluster argument

Some argue gifts only appeared in pockets of biblical history. But prophecy and other gifts appear consistently across Scripture. You cannot use limited textual exposure to prove that gifts ceased outside the recorded events. That is circular reasoning and ignores the broader scriptural witness.

Three important distinctions

The church often confuses three different realities that Scripture treats distinctly:

Fruit of the Spirit - Who we are. The character qualities produced by abiding in Christ: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Ministry gifts (offices) - Gifts from Christ to the church as a corporate body: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher. These are governmental and equipping functions given to the body.
Manifestation gifts - Individual spiritual gifts given by the Spirit for the common good. Examples include prophecy, tongues, healing, and the word of knowledge.

Remember: the fruit of the Spirit is character. Ministry gifts and manifestation gifts are often what we do. God can use people regardless of perfect character, but God also calls leaders to moral and spiritual maturity.

The Five Ministry Gifts and their roles

Ephesians 4:11-16 describes gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. Each serves the corporate body in complementary ways:

Apostles - Govern the church. They ground doctrine, set culture and structure, mobilize the body, and provide governmental oversight. Apostolic leadership often carries signs and wonders as the work grows.
Prophets - Guide the church. Prophets speak God's heart and mind to the people for edification, exhortation, and comfort. They frequently operate with revelation gifts like word of knowledge and discerning of spirits.
Evangelists - Gather the church. Their primary role is to bring people to salvation by preaching the good news.
Pastors - Guard the church. Pastors shepherd, care, and protect the flock by building relationally and spiritually.
Teachers - Ground the church. Teachers explain Scripture, train believers, and help people mature in doctrine and practice.

When all five operate together the body grows and builds itself up in love. When one or more are missing or neglected the church becomes unbalanced: for example, heavy evangelism without teaching and pastoral care leads to a large but immature congregation.

The Manifestation Gifts:

nine gifts and three categories

1 Corinthians 12 lists the manifestation gifts. Paul emphasizes: "To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." These gifts flow from the same Spirit and are distributed as He determines. I find it helpful to group them into three categories.

Revelation gifts - they reveal something

Word of knowledge - Supernatural revelation about facts in the mind of God concerning people, places, or things in the past or present.
Word of wisdom - Revelation about God's purpose or plan; often speaks into future direction or how to apply truth.
Discerning of spirits - Insight into the spirit realm; seeing or sensing spiritual realities such as demonic activity or angelic presence.

Power gifts - they do something

Gift of faith - Supernatural faith that receives miracles; often passive in nature because the miracle is already decreed and the believer receives it.
Working of miracles - Supernatural acts that temporarily suspend natural laws to bring about God purposes.
Gifts of healing - Supernatural anointing to heal physical or emotional disease.

Inspirational gifts - they say something

Prophecy - Speaking God's word for edification, exhortation, and comfort in a known tongue.
Different kinds of tongues - Supernatural utterance in an unknown tongue.
Interpretation of tongues - Supernatural interpretation or translation of an unknown tongue.

All of these are legitimate workings of the Holy Spirit. They are given to individuals for the common good, and Scripture indicates that the Spirit distributes them as He wills. That means anyone can be used in any of these gifts in a moment when the Spirit moves. Do not box yourself into thinking you only have one fixed function.

To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
